John Shon
John Shon, MD, is Head of Data Science and Engineering at Calico Life Sciences, an Alphabet-founded research and development company dedicated to understanding the biology of human aging. He leads the strategic direction of how data is generated, interpreted, and translated into scientific discovery across Calico’s research programs.
Before joining Calico, Dr. Shon served as Chief Technology Officer at Serimmune, where he pioneered the use of machine learning methods with immune signals for cancer and infectious disease diagnostics. His senior leadership roles at Roche, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Illumina span a career at the forefront of the integration of computational science, medicine, and biotechnology.
Beyond the industry, Dr. Shon held training and advisory roles with the Critical Assessment of Genome Interpretation (CAGI), the UCSF Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Carnegie Mellon University’s Biotechnology Innovation and Computation program, and served as an adjunct clinical faculty member at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Shon holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard College, a medical degree from Stanford University, completed his clinical training at the University of Chicago, and was an NIH postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University.
